Q1: How can I apply the IIP Summer Internship Programme?

A. Please apply the IIP Summer Internship Programme from the following website: https://tigpsip.apps.sinica.edu.tw/index.php
Please click Create account button on the IIP website and fill in the application form online. Please make sure you have submit your application as soon as you complete it.

Q2: When can I apply the IIP internship programme?

The application period is from 1st January to 28th February every year. The deadline is on February 28th at 23:59pm in Taiwan time. In order to prevent any systemic problem that might occur on the last few days, it is strongly suggested that you should submit your online application one week before the deadline.

Q3. Can I send my paper application to TIGP office

No. The paper application for IIP programme is not accepted. Only the Online applications are accepted.

Q4. What type of degree should I have to be eligible to apply TIGP-International internship program?

  1. You will be conferred your B.S degree next year. Eg. If you apply 2015 IIP programme, you will need to be conferred your B.S degree on 2016.
  2. If you are pursuing B.S.+ M.S dual degree, you will be conferred your dual degree next year. Eg. If you apply 2016 IIP programme, you will need to be conferred your B.S.+ M.S both degree by 2017.
  3. Students pursuing a Master's degree (not B.S+M.S Dual degree) and holding a B.S. degree.
  4. Individuals holding a B.S. or Master's degree (student's pursuing a PhD degree are not eligible for this category)

Q5. What are required when apply IIP programme?

  1. To complete the online application, you will need to…
    • Upload your CV on the research interests page.
    • Upload your Statement of Purpose on the research interests page.
    • Upload your original academic transcript on current Status of Applicant. Only the official Original academic transcript with the official University Stamp and signature on it (or photocopy notarized by the Ministry of Foreign Education of your country) will be accepted.
    • Complete all the required information on the online application form.
  2. Two letters of recommendation and recommendation forms must be filled in and submitted directly from your referees on IIP website before the deadline (Feb. 28th). Once you complete the referees’ information page on your online application, your referees will be immediately notified and guided to IIP online recommendation portal. It is strongly suggested that you need to fill-in the referees’ information page as soon as you start IIP online application. In case of any technical problems, two of your recommendation letters should be filled-in by your referees 2 weeks before the deadline.
    ** Please note the Selected PI and your referees cannot be the same person.

Q6. How long is IIP internship programme lasts?

IIP International internship programme is a two months internship programme. There are three batches of the internship, May-June, June-July, and July-August.

Q7. I don’t have passport, can I still apply IIP program?

No. Please apply your passport as soon as possible. The passport No. is required on the online application form. If you do not have passport, once you were selected, you are not able to start your internship on time.

Q8. Should I email TIGP office my application form and CV, SOP, and all the other documents?

No. you don’t need to email or mail any of your documents to TIGP office. Please upload all of your documents on your online application and submit your online application 2 weeks before the deadline.

Q9. Is there an application fee?

No application fee is required for TIGP- IIP Internship Programme.

Q10. What’s the application process of IIP internship program?

You need to complete IIP online application and submit it as soon as possible. Then remind your referees to complete your recommendation forms on IIP website. It is suggested that your online application should submit two weeks before the deadline and two of your recommendation forms should be completed by your referees two weeks before the deadline.

Questions of the online application form:

Q1. I have created account but I am unable to log onto IIP website. What should I do?

Please click “Forget your password” and fill in your email account into both “Account” and “Email” Column first to see if the system can resend you an email. Please check your spam folder.

Q2. What should I upload on the supporting document section?

You may upload your degree certificate, publications, awards & honors on it.

Q3. Are supporting documents compulsory?

No. The supporting documents are only used for strength your application.

Q4. Is the English proficiency compulsory?

The English proficiency such as TOFEL, IETLS is not compulsory, but it is strongly suggested for non-native English speaking applicants. It will strengthen your application.

Q5. Why can’t I submit my online application?

You need to complete all the required information, survey and there will have a page showing that you agree the policy. Type into your name on it and then it can be submitted.

Q6. Do I need to upload my original official transcript by myself?

Yes, you need to upload your official academic transcript on “Current Status of Applicant”. Kindly remind you that if you did not upload your official academic transcript on “Current Status of Applicant” on your online application form, your application will be invalid. Note: Official academic transcript which is issued by your University with the original University stamp and signature on it. Transcript without official University stamp and signature on it will not be accepted.

Q7. I don’t know what the official transcript is.

The official transcript should be issued by your university directly and it should have the original University stamp and registrar signature on it). The official transcript should state all the subjects that you had taken in the University and your scores. If you don’t know what the transcript is, please google it. The transcript that you generated by yourself online will be considered unofficial and it will result the invalid application.

Q8. How do I know my referees have uploaded my recommendation letters?

You may log-in to your IIP application form. If your referees have uploaded your recommendation letter, you will see the completed status shows Date which means the date that your referee uploaded your recommendation letter. If the status did not show the date, which means your referee hasn’t uploaded your recommendation letters online.

Questions of recommendation letter:

Q1. Are recommendation letters compulsory?

Yes. Your application will be invalid if two of your referees did not complete the online recommendation letters and forms before the application deadline (February 28th).

Q2. Where should my referees upload my recommendation letters?

As soon as you complete the referees’ information page on your IIP application, your referees will be immediately notified and guided to TIGP's online recommendation portal. Two of your referees should complete the recommendation forms online before the deadline (February 28th). It is strongly suggested that your referees should complete recommendation forms and letters 2 weeks before the deadline in case of any technical problem.

Q3. When should my referees upload the recommendation letters on IIP website?

You will need to complete the Referees’ information as soon as possible on the IIP application website and your referees should complete the recommendation forms and letters between 1st January and 28th February. It is strongly suggested that your referees should complete the recommendation forms and letters 2 weeks before the deadline in case of any technical problem. Kindly remind you that the deadline to complete the recommendation forms and letters online is on February 28th at 23:59pm in Taiwan time (GMT +8). Any recommendation form and letter completed after 12:00 am at February 28th will be not accepted.

Q4. What should be mentioned in the recommendation letters?

There is no particular format of the recommendation letters. However, your referees should indicate your full name (as same as on your application form) on the recommendation letters and upload it in PDF format.

Q5. My referees informed me that they did not receive any information from the IIP system after I completed the referees’ information page. What should I do?

Please ask your referees to check the spam folder first and you can go to the IIP application website and click to re-send the account information to your referees. Or your referees may email to tigpsip@gate.sinica.edu.tw, we will resend the account information to your referees’ email account.

Q6. Can my referees post the hardcopy of the recommendation letters to TIGP office instead of upload them?

No. TIGP office does not accept hardcopy of the recommendation letters or recommendation letter that send by email.

Q7. Do I need to post my recommendation letters to TIGP office???

No. The hardcopy of the recommendation letters are not required. Please do not post it to TIGP office.

Q8. Can TIGP office contact with my referees to request my recommendation letters?

No. All the applicants should contact their referees by themselves. As soon as you complete the “Referee information” page on your application, the system will automatically email two of your referees account information which will guide them to IIP’s online recommendation portal.

Q9. How do I know if my recommendation letters has been uploaded to IIP website?

You may check on the IIP application website to see if your referees have completed the recommendation forms and letters

Questions of choosing internship PI (Host mentor)

Q1. How should I choose the host mentor

    Please follow the steps below:
  1. Please check the mentors on the “Preference list of TIGP mentors” on the online application form.
  2. If you cannot find the name of the mentor on the preference list of TIGP mentors, it means the mentor is NOT able to host any intern in summer. Please DO NOT contact with the mentors who are not on the list.
  3. Every applicant should choose 3 different mentors on the online application form (If you choose more or less than 3 mentors, you application will be considered invalid).
  4. You may choose 3 different mentors based on your research fields. Please click the program that you are interested on the IIP homepage. Then, please y find the faculty list on the program websites.

Q2. What should I do if I couldn’t find the PI that I am interested in on the online application form drop-down list?

A. Please choose other PI instead. Please DO NOT send any email to the PIs who are not on the online application form drop-down list.

Q3. Should I contact with PIs directly?

You can contact with the potential PIs first, but as they are quite busy every day, I would suggest you to submit your application form as soon as you complete it. Please DO NOT send any email to the PIs who are not on the online application form drop-down list.

Q4. Should I wait for PIs’ responses before I submit my application form online?

No. You don’t need to wait for their response to submit your online application. Please submit your online application as soon as you complete it. As all the PIs are busy at work every day, they might not be able to reply your email.

Q5. Can I change mentors after I submit my online application?

No. Once you have submitted your online application, you are unable to change anything on your application form.

Questions of internship announcement:

Q1. When will the result to be announced?

The result will be announced on the first week of April. You may check the accepted intern list on the TIGP website or IIP website on the first week of April.

Q2. What should I do if I were selected from the IIP programme?

TIGP office will contact with the selected interns and all the selected interns will receive IIP admission letter via Email and post. All the selected interns will need to read and follow the admission letter and instructions carefully.

Q3. Will TIGP office return and post the documents to me if I was not selected from the internship program?

No. TIGP office is unable to return any document that you sent to TIGP office.

Q4. Can I change the time of the internship after I were selected?

No. Since IIP summer internship programme is a fix term internship programme, it is not changeable. You are required to arrive in Taiwan within 10 days of your batch starts. Eg. If your batch starting date is May 1st, you are required to arrive in Taiwan not later than 10th May.

Q5. Can I change batch/ duration of the internship if I am not selected from the batch I was choosing?

No. Once you have submitted your online application, you are unable to change anything on your application form.

Questions of stipend, airfare reimbursement, accommodation fee and living expenses in Academia Sinica:

Q1. How much is the accommodation fee cost per month?

It costs NTD 4,000 per month for twin rooms with bunk beds. The accommodation fee will be depended on what type of room do you choose and how many days will you stay.

Q2. Do I need to pay food and transportation fees by myself if I were selected to come to IIP programme?

Yes, the food, transportation, and other expenses will not be included in the accommodation fee.

Q3. Is there any financial support for the IIP internship programme?

TIGP and the hosting PI will together offer NTD 30,000/month-before tax (~USD 1000) for two months. (TIGP will provide a monthly stipend of NTD 20,000/months and the sponsoring faculty will provide additional monthly stipend of NTD 10,000/ month). The monthly stipend will be given after 15th of each month in Cash.
In addition, half of the cheapest round-way airfare at economy class of the batch will be provided to participating interns upon completion of the training program successfully.

Q4. Is there any pick up services from airport to Academia Sinica or University if I were selected from IIP internship?

There is no pick up services from Airport to Academia Sinica or University. TIGP office will only provide the transportation information (from airport to Academia Sinica) to the selected interns. If you are unable to take public transportation or Taxi from airport to Academia Sinica, please do not apply IIP Internship programme.
